Tim is the Chairman of Valid Nutrition, Malawi factory in addition of being the CEO of Exagris Africa Limited and lives in Lilongwe. Originally from the UK, he first lived in Malawi in 1996 and has been a regular visitor until setting up Exagris in 2008. A chartered accountant, Tim worked in corporate finance and private equity based in London for many years.
He is passionate about farming development in Malawi and the Agri business sector in general. He is on the boards of Afrinut Limited and Valid Nutrition as well as the Exagris holding company in the UK and its Russian subsidiary as well.
Tim decided to invest in Valid Nutrition, Malawi factory, a social enterprise in order to strengthen its position as a strong Malawi and potential regional supplier of specialised nutrition food product.
He is married to Nicola, a medical doctor and they have 4 children. He enjoys sailing and music. He is an accomplished musician and specialised as a brass player. These days, he is more often found behind a piano or playing bass guitar.
Dr Steve Collins
Founder of Valid Nutrition
Steve Collins is a medical doctor with a doctorate in nutrition. He developed Community based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) in 1998 and has been the central figure behind the development and expansion of CMAM using Ready to Use Foods (RUFs), and the acceptance of these innovations by the World Health Organisation. In 2001, he received a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for his services to humanitarianism.
He is a respected academic who publishes widely in major international journals, including The Lancet. Steve is also a visiting research fellow at the Institute of Child Health in London and sits on the council of the Commonwealth Association of Paediatrics and Gastroenterology. He is one of the two founders and an executive director of both Valid International and VALID Nutrition.
CEO Valid Nutrition Ireland
Formerly Chairman and Chief Executive of Unilever Ireland, Paul spent some 27 years with Unilever in a variety of different roles and countries before joining VALID Nutrition. A graduate of Trinity College Dublin with an MA in Economics and Business Administration, he started his career with Unilever as a Management Trainee.
Prior to evolving to General Management responsibilities, initial experience was gained in Marketing and Sales. He has worked in Spain, Portugal, Belgium and the UK. Paul began working with Steve Collins in 2009 and has been Chief Executive of VALID Nutrition since 2011.
Trained in Supply Chain Management and Business Administration. He has vast experience in logistics coordination for imports and exports; procurement and administration. He has a working experience with government statutory corporations and various private institutions.
He joined Valid Nutrition in 2010 as a Logistics Manager.
Experienced mechanical engineering maintenance technician. Has vast experience in manufacturing industry maintenance activities including food processing industries such as dairy and sugar processing factories.
Well experienced and rounded finance manager with capabilities of efficient and accurate finance transaction processing. Dalitso has been working for Valid Nutrition since 2010.
Quality Assurance Manager
A holder of a bachelor of science degree in Nutrition and Food science from the university of Malawi and currently studying towards a master of science in nutrition and food science. Has worked as an intern with Ndatani premier feeds as a food safety attachee. Also worked in the quality assurance department at Dairibord Malawi limited which manufactures milk and milk products. Chikondi also worked as a quality assurance and control supervisor with Valid Nutrition before assuming the role of quality assurance manager.
A holder of Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science and Technology, currently studying towards Masters in Business and Management.
Over 16 years working experience in 5 manufacturing industries and 1 quasi-government institution – Malawi Bureau of Standards, MBS. The other Companies (and types of product) worked for include: Pharmanova Ltd (Pharmaceuticals); Mulanje Peak Foods (Canned products – baked beans, pineapple chunks, Jams – and tomato sources); SOBO (Coca-cola products); Dairibord Malawi Limited (Fresh Milk and other products from milk – yoghurts, cheese, dairy fruit blend juices). Vast working experience in Production Quality Assurance and Control.
Has been working with Valid Nutrition since 2010 to date.
Product Development and Technology Manager
Peter Akomo works in the Research and Development department of Valid Nutrition. He has been actively involved in the development of alternative cheaper and efficacious formulations for the prevention and treatment of malnutrition. Peter has a Master’s degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Nairobi.
In his current role, Peter leads product and recipe development (for improving existing formulations and developing new innovative ones) and provides food technology support to Valid Nutrition’s factory operations.
Peter is skilled in the application of linear programming in formulating supplement recipes. He is a researcher in food safety, nutrition and related fields, and is actively involved in seeking innovative solutions to tackle hunger, malnutrition and related problems in the developing world. He has technical knowledge of the hygienic design of food factories and food safety management system implementation and auditing.
Peter has experience in food quality assurance in the manufacturing industry, designing diets for college students and over five years’ experience in project management and child development with Compassion International. Just before joining the Central Management Team, Peter served Valid Nutrition for over two years as a consultant food technologist, coordinating and supervising sample production for Research and Development projects.
